The Placement & Careers Office
As we have covered before on ENhance Placement Stories, Edinburgh Napier University is all about giving students the practical skill-set they need to go out and succeed in their respective fields. As part of that mission, the Placement & Careers Office acts as a vital resource for students seeking placement opportunities in a variety of industries.
The Placement & Careers Office was opened in 2013 as a work placement and employability hub for all three Schools based out of the campus; The School of Arts & Creative Industries, School of Computing and the School of Engineering & the Built Environment. Since it opened, the office has been tremendously successful in hosting in-house placements, as well as promoting further placement opportunities to the students of Edinburgh Napier. Almost all of the students featured on ENhance Placement Stories, in fact, were successful in gaining work experience places with the help of the Placement & Careers Office. |

As well as promoting placement opportunities available to students, Placement & Careers, also help students throughout the application process. From filling out online applications to creating a CV and impressing at interview. If you want to drop-in or arrange a one-to-one session with one of the Careers Advisers or Placement Coordinators, the Placement & Careers Office is here to help.
“We have helped a large number of students gain valuable industry experience” says Lindsay Morgan, Placement Coordinator for the School of Arts & Creative Industries. “Students come to us with a range of questions, on subjects like where to search for opportunities and how to apply. We also offer CV support, advice on cover letters and on other parts of the application process. We try to give students all the tools and the information they need to be successful in gaining work placements which will give their careers a huge boost.”
As well as offering assistance to Edinburgh Napier students throughout the process of applying for placements, The Placement & Careers Office also organise and run a host of workshops and events throughout the year, which you can learn more about here. The workshops hosted by Placement & Careers are delivered to all students based at Merchiston campus, and focus on reaching as many students as possible with information about how to apply for and be successful on placement.

Edinburgh Napier Students can also apply for travel grants and bursaries through the Office, which can cover travel and accommodation expenses whilst on placement. Furthermore, if students at Edinburgh Napier need PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) or Disclosure Scotland certificates for community-based projects, the Placement & Careers Office can fund and process these applications.
“We want as many students as possible to know about the resources and help we have on offer here.” says Maureen Ronaldson, Placement Officer for School of Computing and the School of Engineering and the Built Environment. “It’s really important to our mission at Edinburgh Napier that students know that we’re here to help and support them in a variety of different ways.” The Placement & Careers Office is open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.
